Rain on a previously dry track has lead to the abandonment of today’s Oamaru Cup meeting. That decision has not led to the scrapping of the 2019 Oamaru Cup. Stipendiary steward Mark Davidson said the Oamaru track was simply not in a state safe enough for horses and riders today. Just 5.2mm fell in the previous 27 days, which led to the Oamaru track being in such a firm state. The $60,000 bonus for any horse that can win the Oamaru Cup and next month’s Winter Cup at Riccarton will still be up for grabs, despite the change of venue.
