All these things create an environment that accelerates existing labour exploitation, human trafficking, and ultimately modern slavery. As a result, situations of human trafficking, forced labour, and slavery that are not brought to the attention of the police, remain mostly unaddressed. Labour inspectors, with their broad responsibilities and extensive geographical coverage, can be the eyes and ears of the police in the fight against human trafficking and forced labour. Victims of human trafficking are generally transported into a country without any visas or residence permits. Sometimes, investigations on tax evasion can lead to the detection of forced labour or slavery cases, or vice versa.
