IPOH: Two years ago, a small Christmas tree in the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes in Silibin here was blown down by strong winds. A member of the church’s youth wing, G. Alex Chantra, wanted the next Christmas tree to be bigger, better and sturdier. Working with 14 youth members, the 50-year-old’s vision came true on Dec 3 when they unveiled one of Ipoh’s tallest Christmas trees, standing at 16.7m high. The magnificent centrepiece of the church’s Christmas decorations was launched by assistant parish priest Simon Anand, and the ceremony was attended by a few hundred parishioners. It took 36 days for this team of dedicated youth members to finish the job.
