The nurse denied murdering seven babies and attempting to kill ten others during her work at the Countess of Chester Hospital from 2015 to 2016. The case has caused immense trauma and taken over her life, turning her into an anxious and depressed person who even considered taking her own life following the accusations. Letby was removed from the neonatal unit in 2016 after consultants raised concerns about her “common link” with a number of baby deaths and near-deaths. She wrote comments such as “not good enough,” “I can’t breathe, I can’t focus,” and “I hate myself,” following her removal from the neonatal unit in 2016. Letby is the first specialist neonatal nurse to be charged with multiple counts of murder in the UK.
