There’s normally one ambulance in Barriere and two in Clearwater, about 60 miles north, but they’re shared throughout the region, Stamer said. It is “heartbreaking to hear reports that an ambulance and paramedics were not immediately available in times of emergency,” he said in a statement. BC Emergency Health Services said it is reviewing the circumstances of the “heartbreaking loss”. It said the nearest available ambulance was dispatched immediately, while local firefighters were also called in to assist with the call. Stamer said he and other mayors from inland BC communities are talking about meeting at the Union of BC Municipalities meeting next month to try to catch the ears of provincial authorities.
