This represents 3.1pc of homeowner mortgages and is the lowest share of residential accounts in arrears over 90 days on record. At the peak of the mortgage crisis, a total of 98,736 owner-occupier accounts were in arrears for over 90 days. The number of residential mortgage in arrears held by non-banks has declined for two consecutive years, the Central Bank said. A total of 35,232 of homeowner mortgage accounts are in some form of arrears, a decrease of 874 accounts over the quarter. There were 698,445 private residential mortgage accounts for principal dwellings held in the Republic of Ireland, with a total outstanding balance of €109bn.
