They want more subscribers who are smartphone users because they will be the ones to use more data. Vodafone Red Shield will offer an insurance up to Rs.50,000 for handsets that are at most six months old from theft cover, liquid or physical damage. The largest telecom operator in India has offered its customers these perks for Rs.49 – Rs.79 for all its subscribers. The company’s market feedback said out of 10 customers buying a handset, four bought an insurance.“Hence, it was important to address this need and opportunity. “We expect the need for customers going in for such insurance covers to only increase in the future,” said the senior executive, who did not wish to be named.
