The Health Promotion Bureau (HPB) recently showcased a novel innovation of a locally made powered air-purifying respirator (PAPR) designed by Registrar in Community Medicine Dr. Ashan Pathirana. “The branded device is available with suppliers such as 3M and would cost up to $ 1,000 per unit. This will be an efficient alternative to the surgical masks, or N95 masks that are in use,” Dr. Pathirana explained. If these devices are mass produced, we can also attract more business and improve the revenue,” Dr. Pathirana added.
