HALIFAX—Despite a province-wide ban on fracking, the Nova Scotia government continues to discuss the future potential of the controversial mining technique. A 2014 independent review of fracking recommended a cautionary approach in Nova Scotia because of uncertainty around the environmental and health risks and vocal public opposition. Dunn said the PCs support the fracking ban, but he hears from constituents who would like to see it lifted and so he sees value in continuing the conversation. Offshore natural gas extraction in Nova Scotia recently tapered to a halt, meaning the supply is now imported from other jurisdictions.
