Note to American Airlines Flight Attendants Union: It's Time To Take a Break From Uniform Battle

Last week, Association of Professional Flight Attendants lost in the first step of a grievance process where it argued that American Airlines has provided new uniforms that cause adverse health reactions for thousands of employees. The union, which represents the carrier’s 25,000 flight attendants, said American should either allow members not to wear the new uniforms or else to recall all of the uniforms. American says that it has spent $1.2 million conducting three rounds of tests on the uniforms and that it is willing to keep testing. Although APFA says it is prepared to go to the next steps of the grievance procedure, which could involve arbitration, perhaps now is the time to give it a rest. To review, in September, American introduced new uniforms for 70,000 employees.
