Not a good start for Malaysian shuttlers in Germany

KUALA LUMPUR: It wasn't the best of starts for some of the national shuttlers as they crashed out in the opening round of the German Open in Mulheim. A day earlier, fourth seeds Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing failed to get past the first round, when they went down 21-17, 21-13 to Denmark's Niclas Nohr-Sara Thygesen. Jin Wei, meanwhile, was involved in a late first round match against seventh seed Sayaka Sato of Japan. In the men's doubles, national No 2 Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi failed to come good, losing 17-21, 21-15, 22-20 to fourth seeds Lee Jhe Huei-Lee Yang of Taiwan. Former World No 1 Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong were the other Malaysians involved in a late first round tie against Japan's Hiroyuki Endo-Yuta Watanabe.
