Although it is more than 50 years since Ready Steady Go! last aired, it is still regarded as the high-water mark of music TV in Britain. Shows such as The Tube and the less well-remembered BBC efforts such as Dance Energy and the Oxford Road Show have aspired to its blend of spontaneity and real excitement, a genuinely youthful take on contemporary pop, and a show that could bring in the latest new name at the drop of a hat.
