Norwegian Airlines Cuts 4000 Flights Due To Coronavirus, European Travel Ban

The company says it will cancel 4000 flights and institute layoffs of up to 50% of its personnel, due to the worsening coronavirus pandemic and the European travel ban announced by President Trump. Norwegian Airlines focuses on long-haul, low-cost travel, with a key part of their market being travel between the United States and Europe. The largest foreign airline to offer flights to Europe from New York, the Bay Area, Los Angeles, and Florida, with more than 40 nonstop routes to Europe, Norwegian offered more routes from the U.S. than any other European airline. The company, which also has a significant network within Europe, will also cancel up to 25% of its short-haul flights. Norwegian will cancel or combine a large share of its domestic flights in Norway and flights within Scandinavia, such as Oslo-Copenhagen and Oslo-Stockholm.
