Authorities say the 12-year-old son of a northwestern Indiana couple weighed only 23 pounds when child welfare workers removed him from their home in 2014. The sheriff's office says an arrest warrant wasn't issued until Monday because prosecutors were obtaining additional information. The Jasper County Sheriff's Office says the 50-year-old man and his 41-year-old wife were arrested Tuesday on three counts each of neglect of a dependent. They're being held at the Jasper County Jail. The (Lafayette) Journal & Courier reports ( http://on.jconline.com/29cwcLW ) doctors at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis diagnosed the child with "failure to thrive" and other ailments associated with improper care.
