A Northland woman who nearly lost $180,000 is the latest victim of a sim card scam to share her horror story. The woman, who requested anonymity, told Stuff she suddenly experienced network problems late last year. The woman's bank told her the money had gone to some New Zealand accounts before being transferred offshore, but the move was able to be stopped. The company was investing in new technology and working closely with other telcos and the Telecommunications Forum to ''develop additional industry-wide measures to make Sim fraud much more difficult for criminals''. Half of the $1m lost was attributed to the man believed to be responsible for scamming the Northland woman.
