Northern Territory braces for potential cyclone

Parts of the Northern Territory could take a battering from a cyclone expected to cross the coast today. The tropical low is brewing off the Tiwi Islands north of Darwin and is expected to develop into a category one system around 3pm this afternoon. The weather bureau forecasts gales with gusts of up to 100 kilometres to develop between Point Stuart and Wadeye. While the system is not expected to pass directly over Darwin, residents have been urged to take precautions.
