Historically, they have only ever paid lip service to the ‘six counties’ and this will be the case as long as Northern Ireland exists as a political entity. Surely it is time for the people of Northern Ireland to accept that since the Government of Ireland Act of 1920, irrespective of their creed or politics, the future can only be improved by working together with their neighbours, and for the good of each other. Perhaps with sisters Scotland and Wales, Northern Ireland could rejoin the EU. In 2021, the unionists and nationalists of Northern Ireland are morally obliged as ‘Christians’ to choose peace. Tackling the Covid virus is important, but our fragile ecosystem is our life-support system.
