Northeastern U.S. hit by biggest snowstorm of the winter

▶ A powerful winter storm that has brought heavy snow and strong winds continues to pummel the northeastern U.S. on Thursday, making roads messy and commutes difficult. Schools closed in cities big and small, including New York City, Philadelphia and Boston, and government offices told non-essential workers to stay home. A blizzard warning was posted for a swath of the New England coast, with forecasters saying Boston and Providence, Rhode Island, could get up to a foot and a half by evening. A snowstorm has been forecast with up to a foot of snow expected in Boston and Providence. I’ve only seen it three times in my life,” said Jared Nunes, a state lawmaker from Coventry who runs a construction company that does plowing in the winter.
