A major log truck route will be blocked for several hours tomorrow so a crane can remove a fully loaded unit that crashed on Otaika Valley Rd, also known as State Highway 15. SH15 will be closed between Cemetery Rd and the highway junction at Maungatapere from 10am until 1pm tomorrow while a large crane lifts the truck and trailer onto the road and it can be taken away. The south-bound truck skidded and tipped over the opposite shoulder on a steep, winding section, 2.5 km south of the Maungatapere junction of SH15 and SH14 at 2.45pm today. The driver was unhurt. A police officer said the driver had braked during a sudden, torrential downpour of rain; the truck then sliding across the road and tipping upside down.
