In the first phone call between the leaders in nearly two years, Scholz called on Putin to end the war and pull Russian troops out of Ukraine. The phone conversation lasted about an hour and both leaders agreed to stay in contact. Scholz also planned to talk to Zelensky again once the call was over to give details about the conversation with the Russian president. The last time Scholz talked to Putin on the phone was on 2 December 2022.
