The government announced it would be issuing penalties against groups involved in forced labour, torture and murder in North Korean prison camps. The country's state media reportedly said that "the United Kingdom, a puppet of the US, committed a provocation". North Korea and the United States have failed to find a compromise over North Korea's nuclear weapons programme or international sanctions imposed on Pyongyang. Kim Yo-jong, the sister of North Korea'a leader, said another summit with the United States would only be useful for Washington at this point. According to state media she then said her country had no intention of "threatening the US".
