North Korea said on Thursday it had destroyed its only known nuclear test site ahead of a planned summit with President Donald Trump on June 12 in Singapore. The Associated Press reported that North Korea allowed a select group of journalists from the United States, Britain, China, Russia and South Korea to watch its engineers destroy and close off tunnels in its mountainous Punggye-ri test site. Why it matters: It is in Punggye-ri test site that North Korea had conducted all six of its nuclear tests, but many wondered whether the destruction was complete or a show by North Korea, especially coming only hours after North Korea threatened to cancel the meeting with Trump and two days after Mr. Trump himself seemed to acknowledge that the summit may not take place.
