New Zealand Army Staff Sergeant Joseph van Arendonk is presented with a Chief of Defence Force Commendation by Chief of Defence Force Air Marshal Kevin Short. North Cantabrian Joseph van Arendonk has been recognised by the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) for exceeding all expectations for his rank and trade. Staff Sergeant van Arendonk played a key role as part of an international peacekeeping force in the Sinai Peninsula in 2017-18. He was presented with a Chief of Defence Force Commendation by Chief of Defence Force Air Marshal Kevin Short at a ceremony in Wellington. Van Arendonk, who is based at Burnham Military Camp, joined the New Zealand Army in 2000 at 18 because he wanted a job that provided excitement and a chance to travel.
