North American stocks tick upward while loonie down slightly on Black Friday


North American stock markets are showing modest gains this morning. The Toronto Stock Exchange’s S&P/TSX composite index was up 12.80 points at 15,088.00 after two hours of trading. The major U.S. markets, which were closed Thursday, and close early today at 1 p.m. because of the American Thanksgiving holiday, were also positive. The Dow Jones industrial average gained 51.02 points to 19,134.20, the S&P 500 was up 5.4 points to 2,210.12, and the Nasdaq composite rose 9.04 points to 5,389.72. The Canadian dollar was at 74.02 cents US, down 0.10 of a U.S. cent from Thursday’s close.
