The Port Chalmers Yacht Club hosted the South Island Noelex 22 championships in which a dozen yachts competed. The Noelex 22 was designed in 1969 from a design intended to be a one-off, family day-sailer and restricted cruiser. The national championships for the class would be hosted by the Port Chalmers Yacht Club in February along with the national championships for the Ross 780 class.
