No work, all ‘play’: 'Class of 84' joins ranks of longest-running English plays in India

In January this year, writer and director Rahul DaCunha’s play Class Of 84 entered its 15th year. “When you write a play that’s about your generation, you think only they will like it. So, when the play opened in January 2003, I had hoped for a good 15-20 shows,” the playwright recalls. “Now, it’s easier to keep track of everything since we are all on a WhatsApp group,” Rahul says. So, I had to rename the groups — Xavier’s Class Of 84 and Class Of 84 play,” he adds, even as Zafar says that they end up sending jokes and forwards on the group, rather than talk about work.
