Chief minister Vijay Rupani reiterated Tuesday that there was no water shortage in the state, but admitted that some challenges remained because local sources of water had dried up at many places due to inadequate rain last year. The CM's assurance came a day after his deputy Nitin Patel said that there was no shortage of water. Rupani, who reviewed the state's water situation earlier in the day, said, "Adequate water is there... the challenge is in transporting it 500 km away." He also attributed water shortage at some places to limitation of infrastructure capacity at municipality levels. Water Policy soonJP Gupta, principal secretary of Narmada, water resources, and water supply department, said that an exhaustive water policy was in the final stages of preparation, and would be declared soon.
