No tsunami threat after magnitude 6.5 Visayas quake


MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) on Tuesday assured the public that there was no threat of a tsunami following a strong earthquake that shook Eastern Samar. A magnitude 6.5 earthquake was reported in San Julian, Eastern Samar with depth of 17 kilometers at around 1:37 p.m.Related Stories Phivolcs upgrades to magnitude 6.5 quake that jolted Eastern Samar town"No destructive tsunami threat exsist based on available data.
