MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) on Tuesday assured the public that there was no threat of a tsunami following a strong earthquake that shook Eastern Samar. A magnitude 6.5 earthquake was reported in San Julian, Eastern Samar with depth of 17 kilometers at around 1:37 p.m.Related Stories Phivolcs upgrades to magnitude 6.5 quake that jolted Eastern Samar town"No destructive tsunami threat exsist based on available data. This is for information purposes only and there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines from this earthquake," PHIVOLCS said in an advisory. Netizen Zhaun Rosales Ortega said people are running out of fear of tsunami in Tacloban City on Tuesday. Phivolcs said there is NO TSUNAMI THREAT from the Eastern Samar quake.
