PAEDIATRICIAN Dr Adele Tan Guat Kean, 72, has put retirement on hold to carry out advocacy work that is close to her heart. In terms of dealing with childhood obesity, Dr Tan said she spearheaded the setting up of the hospital’s Kids Fitness Club, which holds workshop talks and lifestyle events for its members aged between seven and 12. Dr Tan said she had always wanted to be a doctor, despite the financial difficulties she had in her growing years. Dr Tan said she has no plans to retire anytime soon and would continue working despite having undergone bilateral hip replacements for osteoarthritis. Dr Tan also takes part in competitive scrabble.
