President Trump on April 5 removed White House chief strategist Stephen K. Bannon from the National Security Council. (Bastien Inzaurralde/The Washington Post)President Trump's chief strategist, Stephen K. Bannon, is no longer part of the National Security Council. Instead, he now belongs to a different club — one composed of White House aides who have been the subjects of anonymously sourced media reports about diminished standing. At this point, it is clear that no one — except, perhaps, the president's elder daughter, Ivanka Trump — is safe from harm. This is how the ultra-competitive White House workplace functions right now, and there is no reason to think conditions will improve.
