SEPANG: As a breast cancer survivor, Rene’e Aziz Ahmad knows a thing or two about overcoming challenges, having gone through multiple cycles of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Now, the 56-year old will be overcoming another challenge, climbing Mount Elbrus in Russia, which, at 5,642m at one of its two summits, is the highest mountain in Europe. She said that it was her friends’ suggestion that she join them to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania in 2003 that gave her the push to increase her fitness level again. Rene’e will be climbing the mountain with five other Malaysian women under the Negaraku Caring Women Hiking mission, in the spirit of National Day and National Women’s Day this year. The women will begin their climb on Aug 25 and are expected to reach the summit on Aug 31.
