PUTRAJAYA: It’s goodbye to mid-year and final-year exams come next year for Year One, Two and Three pupils. The abolishment of these exams would ensure teachers focus on character-building, instead of exam preparations, said Education director-general Datuk Dr Amin Senin (pic). “Pupils will now be assessed based on their individual learning capabilities, and not comparatively,” he told reporters during a briefing on the implementation of assessments for Level One pupils. Dr Amin said classroom-based assessments had been around since 2011 but unfortunately, schools had only focused on preparing students for exams. Classroom-based assessments for Level One pupils, he explained, are meant to be pupil-centred and fun.
