No end to flood woesAs heavy floods battered the southern province of Nakhon Si Thammarat, causing loss of lives and property, the state has not come any closer to a long-term comprehensive solution. Now most state agencies are focusing on relief and rescue operations as the death toll increases. Some officials insisted that the project was mapped out during the time when state water projects were allowed to skip the EIA process. In fact, at the end of the Prayut regime, state agencies had promised to suspend the project and form a panel to consider the problem and find a proper way out. Instead, if the Prayut government is sincere about resolving the problem, it must order state agencies to honour their promise, form a joint panel and give locals a say.
