Police and the Rapid Action Battalion backed by border guards are enough to maintain the law and order in the election areas, said EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed following a meeting with law-enforcement agencies on Thursday. The commission’s decision came against a backdrop of BNP’s long-standing demand for the army deployment in the upcoming election. “The past local elections have become successful with the help of law-enforcement agencies. The upcoming election will also be successful,” Ahmed said. An EC team led by Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda held a two-hour meeting with top officials of law-enforcement and other government agencies ahead of Gazipur and Khulna city corporations polls to be held on May 15.
