Though police lay in wait at Hare Road and Bijoy Sarani, none drove on the wrong lane, said Dhaka Metropolitan Traffic Police officials. The operation had been aimed at assuaging the annoyance long felt by many residents of the capital at VIPs driving on the wrong lane to avoid traffic. On Monday, a secretary to the Ministry of Rural Development and Co-operatives and a police official at the rank of superintendent were fined for driving down the wrong lane at Bangla Motor. Police took up positions near the State Guest House on Hare Road between late afternoon and evening. “If we continue in this way no one else will try to drive on the wrong lane,” he added.
