Joseph C. Sternberg is mistaken to blame the debts of millennials on their boomer parents (“Boomer Bequest Is Millennial Misery,” op-ed, May 14). Throughout history, governments spend now, and go into debt now, with the promise to pay it all back “later.”Government programs to rob Peter later to pay Paul now go back to before boomers were born (1946-64). The U.S. government has continuously had some level of public debt since its formation in 1789, except for a period of roughly one year, from 1835–36. For one golden moment...
