No Eid’l Fitr gunfire, Muslims asked

MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde yesterday urged Muslims to dispense with using firearms to celebrate Eid’l Fitr, the end of Ramadan, on Wednesday. But Albayalde appealed to Muslims not to use their firearms to commemorate Eid’l Fitr. “May I also remind everyone especially in the south to refrain from the traditional practice of celebratory gunfire to celebrate the occasion,” he said. Meanwhile, the PNP remains on alert for lawless groups which might sow terror on Wednesday. “We remain alert and watchful for any untoward incident that may spoil the solemnity of this occasion,” he said.
