No ASF outbreak in S'wak, DCM clarifies

The Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister clarified that only one out of 17 samples of canned luncheon pork imported from China tested positive for ASF DNA during a laboratory test on Oct 25. The detection of the DNA virus in the canned luncheon pork does not change Sarawak's ASF-free status," he said in a statement on Monday (Nov 4). Dzulkefly was reported as saying earlier that the ASF virus had not reached an alarming stage in Sarawak and there was no need for the people to panic. Uggah said Sarawak had enforced an import ban on all pork and pork products from ASF-infected countries, including China. He said the department would continue to enforce the Veterinary Public Health Ordinance 1999 to ensure that pork and pork products imported into Sarawak are from ASF-free countries.
