Robert Oxley, the prime minster’s press secretary, was caught on camera handing Mr Johnson a coffee in a non-recyclable cup. Shelley Williams-Walker, the prime minister’s operation’s chief, quickly took it from Mr Johnson amid apparent concern about him being filmed using a cup which is environmentally unfriendly. The prime minister later tweeted a picture of himself with a mug, saying: “I got my coffee in the end.”“No disposable cups,” the aide said. Mr Johnson shook his head and said “Oh, oh, oh”, as the drama unfolded.
