Nine people were killed in a gun battle between Indian soldiers and militants that raged into its second day at an army camp in northern Jammu and Kashmir state, police said. Five soldiers and a civilian were killed, as were three militants, a senior police officer said. Army spokesman Lt Col Devender Anand said the three dead militants were wearing fatigues and had assault rifles, a grenade launcher and grenades. The army camp is close to two shopping centers and public schools. India accuses Pakistan of training and arming militants and helping them infiltrate across the Line of Control that divides the Kashmir region.
