On Jan 8, 2010, Shahadat Hossain Shohag, a student of Bhawal Badre Alam College, was attacked with sharp weapons following an argument at Rajbari ground in the district town. On Wednesday, the additional district and sessions judge convicted all of the nine suspects and ordered death sentences. The convicts have been also fined Tk 10,000 each. On two other charges, they have been sentenced to a six-month and two-month jail terms. Five of the convicts were in the dock when the court announced the verdict while the others convicts were on the run.
