Nigerian Senate seeks dismissal of suit alleging Ethiopian government lacks budget to feed detained Nigerians, others

The Nigerian Senate has asked the Federal High Court, Abuja, to dismiss a suit alleging that the Ethiopian government lacks budgetary allocation to cater for the feeding and welfare of detained Nigerians. Nairametrics previously reported that the applicant stated he sued on behalf of the Nigerians allegedly imprisoned and detained in Kaliti, Ethiopian prison. “That the 3rd Respondent indeed directed its committees on Diaspora and Foreign Affairs to investigate social media reports alleging Incarceration and maltreatment of 250 Nigerians in Ethiopia. “That I know as a fact that the Applicant has no genuine cause of action against the 3rd Respondent. But NIDCOM had, in 2023, said several Nigerians were languishing in Ethiopian prisons for drug trafficking offences.
