The US is continuing to assist Nigeria in its programme to turn harmful gas flaring into power, cutting emissions and boosting clean energy production. Central to this effort is the Nigeria Gas Flare Commercialisation Programme (NGFCP). This led to the pre-qualification of 205 private sector bidders poised to use flare gas for power generation and other productive uses. Record-high gas flaring wastes energy much needed in AfricaIn 2022, Power Africa’s collaboration with the NGFCP identified 49 flare sites for auction. The forum facilitated direct engagement between flare-gas buyers and financiers, addressing investment and technology solutions for gas flare elimination and commercialisation.
