Nigeria Police Force Rescues Hostages, Frees Electoral Commissioner Amid Criticism

The Nigeria Police Force has made headlines lately for two major occurrences: the freeing of an arrested Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner and the rescue of 22 hostages kidnapped in the Federal Capital Territory. Despite the police’s achievement in releasing the commissioner, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has expressed discontent about the fast action taken. Meanwhile, FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Haruna Garba, proudly shared his bureau’s accomplishments in rescuing 22 hostages that were abducted in an incident that happened on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. Garba stated that FCT police operatives had initiated a unique rescue plan in Kogi, Nasarawa states, and the FCT borders. The Anti-Kidnapping Unit then saved the hostages at Sarudauna Forest, Nasarawa State via Gegu village bordering the FCT.
