Nicholas Kristof does not meet residency requirements to run for governor, Oregon Elections Division says

Washington, DC (CNN) Former New York Times journalist Nicholas Kristof does not meet the residency requirements to run for governor in Oregon, the state Elections Division said Thursday. Oregon's state constitution says a candidate must be "a resident within this state" for three years prior to an election. "The rules are the rules and they apply equally to all candidates for office in Oregon. I stand by the determination of the experts in the Oregon Elections Division that Mr. Kristof does not currently meet the Constitutional requirements to run or serve as Oregon Governor," Oregon Secretary of State Shemia Fagan said in a statement Thursday. "The Secretary of State has attempted to remove me from the ballot in this year's governor's race.
