The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission has announced plans to deepen diaspora engagement through investment-driven initiatives, unveiling the Nigeria Diaspora Economic Conference 2026, scheduled to hold in Toronto. Dabiri-Erewa noted that while Nigerians abroad contribute over $20 billion annually in remittances, the commission is now prioritising remittances for investment to maximise economic impact. “However, our mission at NiDCOM has always been to move beyond remittances for consumption and transition into remittances for investment,” she said. She called on entrepreneurs, state governments, financial institutions, and diaspora professionals to take advantage of the platform. Explaining the choice of Canada, she described it as home to “one of the most professional, high-achieving, and patriotic segments of Nigerian diaspora”.
