On Friday, January 26, the Kenyan newspapers reported that it will be mandatory for all Kenyans to register as members of the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) starting in April. The dailies also reported Tourism Cabinet Secretary (CS) Alfred Mutua is involved in a battle over ownership of a restaurant in Nairobi. People DailyNew regulations published by Health CS Susan Nakhumicha indicate that current National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) members must register afresh on SHIF. The new scheme will be managed by the Social Health Authority Board chaired by Timothy Olweny, and the rate charged is 2.75% of gross salary. Those with gross pay of KSh 1 million will contribute KSh 27,500 to the scheme.
