Reported earlier that the Punjab government will soon levy taxes on people owning pets, a clarification by the the Local Government Department, Punjab today debunked the news of any such order. According to initial reports, people living in urban areas were expected to pay Rs 250 per year for owning dog, cat, pig, sheep or deer. Those owning buffalo, bull, camel, horse, cow or elephant were to shell out Rs 500 per year. While adding that under this proposal, no new tax is intended to be imposed on pets.
