A flurry of first-half goals started with Mickey Demetriou heading the hosts in front, only for Nicky Maynard to level for Bury two minutes later. Jamille Matt then fired Newport into a 2-1 lead after 13 minutes. Newport climb up to 11th place in the League Two table, two points adrift of the play-off spots and with a game in hand on Exeter, who occupy the last of those four places. Bury, meanwhile, drop down to fourth in the table, with Milton Keynes Dons replacing them in third.
