Michael Ross managed to save the family cat from the smoke before his home burst into flames. Father-of-two Michael Ross returned home about 5.30pm on Easter Monday to find smoke billowing from his family's Mid-Canterbury home. His wife of five weeks, Jamie Ross, was away at the time with their 18-month-old son, Dustin. As well as their toddler, Jamie Ross said she was also step-mum to Michael's 3-year-old daughter, Alexis, from a previous relationship.
